Sleep Over

Last night Nathan had his first sleep over. The boy next door and his older sister came over for the night. We ordered pizza watched a movie and ate chocolate chip cookies. It was a good time and I think they were pretty excited about it all. They were put to bed around 8:00, but it wasn't until9:30 when they finally settled down and went to sleep. Mainly because I was super tired and I was ready for them to go to sleep, so I laid down in Nathan's bed to "help" them settle down. They had a good time with each other and Nathan was sad to see them leave this morning after breakfast.

Another Week

Well, things are getting easier, I think Nathan got out of the car in the car pool line every day of the week and I did not have to unload the girls to walk him into the school building all week. There was one time I was getting back into the car and Nathan ran form the sidewalk to the car trying to get back in, but one of the teachers saw and escorted him back to the sidewalk and into his classroom. We are getting better, but he is not excited about school in any way, shape or form. There have been bribes of skittles and a drink from Sonic (thank goodness for happy hour). Nathan's teacher suggested that I give him something to keep in his pocket that could help to remind him of me to help with the separation anxiety, so I gave him a coin from England that he could keep in his pocket and it would be as though I was with him all day. Well he lost it once, got it back, than lost it again on the playground and never got it back. I will try again next week with a different coin, but if it keeps getting lost, I may have to just find a sticker.

Dentist

Emily had her first trip to the dentist today and she did great!! They did not do anything but look in her mouth and count her teeth. She will go back in March for her first official cleaning. When the dentist asked her to open her mouth she did and then he asked her to close her mouth and she did it. She is getting so big!! When we came home from the dentist I asked her if she had fun, she said yes, then I asked her if she liked the dentist and she said, "poopy head". I guess that was a no. However, later on she did say that she did like the dentist.

One week of school down...

The first full week has come to an end and I have never been happier to see Saturday!! Nathan still does not want to go to school, but when I pick him up he says he had a good day, so I will keep on pushing him into the classroom. It has been a hard week and I am struggling with the stress of Nathan. I hate to see Nathan so upset every morning, but I am sure he will come to accept his teacher and learn to deal with the fact that she is older and a little more strict than other terachers. She is a good person, but very much a rule follower and yells at the kids some times. Nathan has never been one to like yelling, even if it is not at him. He is a VERY sensitive child, and I am hoping that having this teacher will help him to deal with these feelings. I am told by his teacher that he his doing very well and participates in class. I will keep pushing and hopefully by the end of next week things will be better. Kayla on the other hand will jump out of the car and has a great time at school. She enjoys telling me all about her day when I pick her up from school. She is making new friends and having a good time.

They have arrived...

On Thursday we noticed a few hummingbirds flying around so Saturday morning I was able to clean the hummingbird feeders, put new food in them and hang them up. Since then we have seen about 4 (or if you ask Nathan 6-12) flying around and protecting their food source. They are very territorial. We have one bird that sits in the tree in front of the house and will dive-bomb any other bird that tries to eat from "it's" feeder. The kids also were quick to point out one that flew into the window and came to an untimely death. Hopefully that will be only one to die. Although I must admit it was kind of neat to a hummingbird up close. They are tiny!!
This was Kayla's "sad" face

Back to School

This morning Nathan and Kayla went back to school. It was fairly uneventful Kayla went in and played with her friends form last year. Nathan went in, but was NOT excited about going to school. We received a card in the mail last week from his teacher that said how she looked forward to seeing him in her class. Well, when i said her name he was not happy about it at all, I believe his exact words were, "I hate Mrs. Smith. She is mean." Well this was not a good sign!! There were a lot of talks about how we should give her a chance and not judge her before we get to know her, blah, blah, blah... (I am sure that is what Nathan heard). When I woke him up he was not interested in getting ready and fought with me about it and argued and yelled, which made me even more positive that he WAS going to school. We got to school and walked him to the classroom, not too much drama, then there was a little hesitation when I went to leave, but it worked out to be OK. I just hope he finds a way to like her sooner rather than later!!

Summer Fun

Well, Summer is officially over for the kids, school starts tomorrow so here is a snap shot of our summer, there was a trip to OKC where we spent time with both sets of grandparents, then there was swimming lessons, a week of Vacation Bible School (that Nathan LOVED) followed by a visit from my brother and his family and my parents. Then there was a visit from Paul's parents. After all the visitors were done I feel like we just enjoyed being lazy sleeping until 7am getting breakfast sometime between 7 and 11am. Cartoons were watched and enjoyed there were trips to the grocery store which inevitably was proceeded by an argument about not wanting to go to the store and "why didn't we go to the grocery store the day before when we were running other errands?" There were lots of arguing and neighborhood boys coming over to play. Kayla and Emily were always ready to play baby dolls with each other, which was fun to watch. They are pretty good together, Emily takes direction and Kayla is really good at giving it!! It was a good summer and the kids do not want to go back to school tomorrow, I am going to miss them, I do not think I will be able to get as much done with them gone.

Snow Cones!!

We were given an ice cream maker and the kids love it!!

Talking

Why do we teach children to talk?? Sure it is a necessary thing in life and without it they would be lost, but really can they not just start when they leave the house?? I have joked about this, but this morning as my 4 year old continued to tell me"no" over and over again about EVERYTHING, I began to ponder this question. I looked at my 12 month old and thought she is still so innocent and sweet, why can't they all be like her? Sure I have no idea what she wants when she screams and cries, but she is easily distracted and will forget why she is crying. It is just so much nicer when they can't talk back and yell at me!! On another note school starts in 6 days!!! I think I am more excited than the kids are.
