Girls Day Out

Yesterday Kayla, Emily and I went with Mrs. Grundmeier (Ruth) up the coast for some retail therapy. If you know me, I am not your typical girly shopper, I will not fall into a state of depression if I do not shop on a weekly routine. I do not enjoy having to search out bargains and trying to find "just what I am looking for". The kind of shopping I enjoy is to walk into a store, know they have what I want, and buy it. All of this having been said, I found myself enjoying shopping. It was nice to go out and see all of new clothes and styles. I spent 90% of the time shopping for clothes for the kids, but it was still fun. I may have enjoyed the shopping because it takes about 40 minutes to get there and there are tolls along the way (about $10 roundtrip), so I know I will not be going back any time soon. I did not get to do my walking, and the girls did not get very good naps, so I paid for my morning/afternoon of shopping, but it was nice to get out of the house. All in all a good day out!!

Fun with Bread

Today Nathan, Kayla and I made some bread, and with the dough Nathan made a snake and Kayla made a spider (with a bit of help). Emily was given a loaf all of her own to chew on. In other Emily news she took 7 baby steps last night in an effort to get to the dishwasher and play with the dirty silverware!! Who needs soft sqeeky baby toys when there is dirty silverware.

The Cleaning Lady

I have hired a cleaning lady to help me with the housework, she is relatively inexpensive (will work for a cookie) and does a fair job. She enjoys what she does, but is easily distracted and will some times “forget” to clean some areas. Her work will occasionally increase my work load, but with LOTS of practice, I am hopeful that one day the quality of her work will improve and will lighten the amount of work that I will have to do. I am also afraid that as she improves, she will get greedy and start to ask for 2 then 3 cookies as payment, and I am sure that in 13 years she will be asking for money. Good help is hard to find so I am willing to suffer for a bit in the hope that it will pay off in the future!! If you have any work that you could send her way, let me know, it will cost you a cookie, and the air fare!!

Back to School

Today was Nathan’s first day back to school. Nathan did not want to go, and he was complaining all of the way. We usually get there a few minutes early, one to get a parking place and two to sit in the “library” and read some books. When it was time to enter the class, he was crying and clinging desperately to my leg and arm. Thankfully once in the room there was one of the helpers from his class last year. She took Nathan by the hand sat down at the play dough table and talked with him while I slipped out the door. I am not sure what he did once I was gone, but when I picked him up from school I received a lecture on how I am not suppose to do that (leave without informing him of the fact that I am leaving). It was good to have some free time in the afternoon today; however, I did miss having him around to play war (the card game) with and just to be silly. Next Monday is Kayla’s first day of school, I hope it is a good day!! This morning she wanted to go to school like Nathan and wanted me to put a snack in her backpack, just like Nathan. Although she was told over and over again that she would not be going to school today, when she realized that Nathan was staying at school and she was coming on a walk with mommy and Emily, she was not that excited. I did win her over when I bought her a new pair of shoes that she put on as soon as we entered the house and would have taken her nap in them if I would have let her!!

Friends, Mexican Food, and Balderdash

Last night we had some friends from Paul’s work over for dinner and then to play Balderdash. It was a good time for just relaxing and having a late night. Everyone arrived around 5PM and we snacked on salsa, queso, chips, cheese, and refried beans until the cook (Paul) cooked up the steaks and chicken for the fajitas. After dinner and putting the little ones to bed (where is Nanny Kirstin when you need her?!?) we were set to continue talking and drinking. After a few hours of talking we broke out the Balderdash where there was lots of laughter and silliness. While playing Balderdash we learned how to throw Exxon Mobil gang signs as well as signs for GE, Shell, and numerous others…. Thanks Scott!! Our DJ’s Paul and Scott picked out classic Seven Dust, Rage against the Machine, Tool, Limp Bizkit, and Slip Knot as our energetic music for the night. Thankfully we are still without neighbors so this was not a problem as the music was far louder than should have been. Our guests left at 2AM and it was WAY past our bedtime as well. It was a good time and made us feel as though we were back in college again.....if only we could sleep in the following day!
